Even then their family was one of secrets and lies. Set on the We Were Liars island one generation previously, when Cady’s mother and her sisters were teenagers. Then I got an ARC, which I wanted to read in a somewhat timely fashion, so I dove right in without the refresher. My original plan was to reread the original-it’s been four years or so since I read it, and I’m not great about remembering specifics-and then read Family of Liars when it became available at the library. It’s very possible that this was just going to be a cash grab, but I was always going to read it. In all honesty, my first response was skepticism: We Were Liars is an excellent book, but it has been out for a while and the timing of this prequel coincides with the renewed interest from #booktok. Lockhart’s massively popular thriller We Were Liars, so I was very interested to hear about the prequel.
